Privacy Policy
This policy covers the wheretopark.sg website and the wheretopark.sg apps for Android and iOS (together, "wheretopark.sg", "we", "us"). wheretopark.sg helps you find carparks in Singapore and estimate what they cost. Questions about this policy or your data: contact@wheretopark.sg.
1. What we collect
When you use wheretopark.sg, signed in or not
- Destination searches. When a search finds a destination, we record its name (for example "Orchard Road") and map position, so we know which places people look for parking at.
- Usage events. Which screens you open and which features you use: for example that a search ran, which carpark you viewed or saved, and which maps app you chose for directions. We don't record what you type into forms or the text on buttons.
- Identifiers. A random ID created on your device to count unique visitors, and a session ID that resets after 30 minutes of inactivity. They don't identify you by name.
- Device and visit details. Whether you're on a phone, tablet or computer, the page you opened, and the website that linked you to us. We don't record your IP address in our database, although our hosting and database providers process it to deliver the service (see section 3).
Your location
If you tap Use my location (Near me) and allow it, your device's location is used to search for carparks around you and to show walking routes. To do that it is sent to our servers and to the map services in section 3, which process it to answer the request. We do not store it: a Near me search is recorded only as "My location", without coordinates. We never collect location in the background.
What you type into search
As you type a destination, the text is sent to Google Places and OneMap to suggest matching places. We don't keep what you type, only the destination the search finds (as above).
If you sign in
- Account details from Google or Apple: your account ID, name and email address. With Apple you can choose to hide your email; we then receive an Apple relay address. Your profile photo, if Google provides one, is shown in the app and kept on your device only.
- Sign-in record: when you first and last signed in, how many times, and which version of this policy you accepted and when.
- Saved places: carparks you save, and destinations you save with the name, address, icon (for example Home or Work) and map position you give them, so they sync to your other devices.
- Check-ins: when you report a carpark as available, limited or full.
- Your searches and usage events are linked to your account ID while you are signed in.
When you send us something
- Feedback and "report an inaccuracy": what you write, the carpark it is about, the email address if you give one (your account email if signed in), and your browser or app version (user agent) to help us fix problems.
- Carpark corrections and new carparks: the details you submit (rates, lots, height limit, location, notes) and your name and email so we can follow up.
Stored on your device only
Your recent searches, settings (theme, filters, preferred maps app) and, when signed out, your saved places are kept on your device. They stay there until you remove them, clear the app's data or uninstall it.
2. How we use it
- To find carparks, estimate costs, show live availability and give directions.
- To keep your saved places in sync across your devices when you sign in.
- To improve carpark data, using your corrections, check-ins and reports.
- To understand, in aggregate, which places and features people use, and to fix problems.
- To reply when you contact us.
We don't sell or rent your data, use it for advertising, or combine it with data from other companies to profile you.
3. Who we share it with
We use these service providers to run wheretopark.sg. They process data only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database | The data in section 1 that we store, and the map area of each carpark search |
| Vercel | Hosting, and page-view statistics without cookies | Requests to our website and servers, including your IP address |
| Sign-in, place search, nearby carparks | Sign-in details; text you type into search; your location when you use Near me in an area we have few carparks for | |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple (iOS) | Sign-in details |
| OneMap (Singapore Land Authority) | Maps, place search and walking routes | Map areas you view, text you search for, and the start and end points of walking routes |
When you tap Navigate, the carpark's location (not yours) is passed to the maps app you choose (Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps), whose own privacy policy then applies. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
4. How long we keep it
- Usage events: 12 months, then deleted automatically.
- Your account, saved places and check-ins: until you delete them or your account.
- Destination search records, visit records, feedback, reports and corrections: as long as they help us run and improve the service. Those linked to your account are deleted when you delete it.
5. Your choices and rights
- You can use wheretopark.sg without signing in.
- You can refuse or turn off location access in your device settings and search by name instead.
- You can remove saved places at any time, and sign out to stop linking activity to your account.
- Delete your account in the app or on the website: Account → Delete account. See how account deletion works.
- To ask what data we hold about you, or to correct it, email contact@wheretopark.sg. We handle requests in line with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) and reply within 30 days.
6. Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Access to stored data is restricted to our servers and to us for running the service. Deleting an account requires confirming it with Google or Apple.
7. Children
wheretopark.sg is for drivers and isn't directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect their data.
8. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date above. For significant changes we'll tell you in the app, and you'll be asked to accept the new version when you next sign in.
